This is my family when I was a toddler. I really have no memories as a baby nor a toddler. My parents in this picture are 50 and 54, they had me at an older age. A very older age especially since when I am a teen they will be elders.... Oh well.
Cecilia: I have been thinking long and hard, what if we had another child? Before we're elders.
Martin: I'm not sure honey if we're still capable, I mean you had so many medical issues with Caitlin. I don't want to lose you.
Cecilia: I think we should at least try, I'm sure my last birth was just a little off since Caitlin was such an early born baby.
Martin: Whatever you think sweetheart....... Whatever you think....
I decided to go over to my new neighbors house. I heard a kid lived here and I really wanted to meet him/her. I rang the doorbell and waited patiently. A tall man answered the door. "Hello?" He said to me. "Hi I'm Caitlin one of your neighbors... I was wondering is your child home?" I asked shyly... The man entered the house and yelled for someone. "I believe Matthews at the park with his mother. You should meet him there." He told me. "Thanks very much!" I replied. The man entered the house and I went for the park.
At the park I met Matthew, or so I believe who this is. "Hi, are you Matthew?" I asked approaching him."Why yes yes I am!" He replied. "And who are you?" He asked. "Oh I'm one of your neighbors you can call me Caitlin...." I said very quietly. "Caitlin, I like your name!" He said laughing. "I like yours too." I said back. Then out of nowhere we both started laughing hystericly. I knew that we would be best friends forever. "Hey, did you want to come over to my house?" I asked him. "Sure why not! Let me go tell my mom!"
At my house Matthew started to talk to Diana about his father. "My dads kind of a drill sergeant but once you get to know him he's great!" Matthew said trying to strike a conversation. Diana being the self centered snob that she is starting to go off on him. "Do I really care what your dads like? I mean really do you just tell every stupid stranger you see all about your dad?" She shouted. "Diana shut up!" I said defensively for Matthew. Diana rolled her eyes and went to our shared room. "Sorry about her Matthew, she's not very sociable..." I apologized. "Nah, it's cool. You should meet my brother he's bipolar so when you say hi he will be nice then a second later he will yell at you for no apparent reason."
Me and Matthew talked and talked for ages. Eventually it got dark though. "Hey I have to go home... I can come over tomorrow though, I think.." He said jokingly. "Alright cool! If not just call! Bye Matthew." "Bye Caitlin!"
After Matthew left I decided to do my homework. My parents didn't exactly care if we did good or bad in school, so my sisters took it as they didn't have to do their homework ever. I always did my homework I wanted a good name in school. SO while I was hard at work on pre-algebra a.k.a the math that my 8th grade sister is doing while I am in 4th grade my sisters are slacking off watching television... What great role models...
Cecilia and Martins POV...... "Okay we are going to try to have another kid!" Cecilia said. "You are absolutely positive you want another one right?" Asked Martin. "I'm positive!" Said Cecilia in a defensive way. Martin pulled the covers over their heads and they got to work. Finally towards the middle of the night they were done screwing around and went to bed like the rest of their household. Sorry.... That was in 3rd person... :P
Caitlins POV... In the morning I went over to another neighbors house, two new people moved in just a week ago. I ran across the street and came up to their house. A strange girl in all black walked up to me. "Hey I'm Bridget." She said right away, "Hi, I'm Caitlin." I said back struck by her enthusiasm. "Why don't you come on in. We can play video games or get to know each other a little more." She asked. "Sure why not!" I said, she led me into her house.
All of a sudden she hugged me out of nowhere. "I can tell we're going to be the best of friends." She said right away. I really liked how she wore all black and yet her heart was huge, at least I hope she's not just kidding. "Oh wait.. My dads not home.. Is it cool if we go to your house?" "Yeah that's fine. Do you want me to invite Matthew over too so we can all get to know each other more?" I asked, "Yeah totally Matthew seems okayish." We started laughing and ran over to my house.
Matthew came over right away. "Sorry I didn't come over earlier my dad had us do a work out day." he apologized. "No it's fine I was over at Bridgets house. So Bridget tell us why you moved to Sunset Valley? Or I guess right in front of my house?" "Well theres kind of a backstory of why I'm here right now. You see when I was younger, I guess two or three, my house caught on fire. I was a toddler at the time so I don't remember much but once the fire was over Someone picked me up and took me to a nice house. They gave me a bowl of cereal and told me they were really sorry for me. At the time I had absolutely no clue what was going on. Then when I stayed a week in that house I started realizing that my mom and dad weren't there, neither were my brothers who were twins, not even my grandparents. I realized I knew nobody there. So I asked a nice lady where my mommy was and she told me she was sorry and led me to a huge room. In a desk there sat another lady. She told me that my mom Jill and my father Richard were killed in the fire, then she told me that my grandparents Ed and Mae didn't make it either. Finally she told me my older twin brothers Tom and Tim didn't make it too. I really didn't process it until all of their funerals. I watched them all get put under ground. I realized I'd never see them again. Afterwards I was pushed into foster care and was put into house after house. Finally my dad now, Tom, adopted me. He moved me out of Riverveiw we even went to Egypt together. Now we just live in a small house right next to you." She told us her WHOLE life story... "That's intense!" Matthew shouted. "Are you like in a soap opera or something?" He asked. Me and Bridget just cracked up laughing. "What?" He said.
"Okay Mathew your turn! Tell us about yourself!" Bridget yelled. "Okay fine. I have an older brother who's bipolar and possibly gay-" He started then Bridget cut him off "You mean your telling us that your brother might possibly like guys?" "Bridget! That's rude everyone is different and if Matthews brother is gay then that's absolutely no problem. Now be nice... Matthew continue." I said. Matthew started again. "When I was a little younger we lived in Twinbrook my mom was a nurse there and my dad is in the Army, well when he got deployed for like the ninth time to Iraq we decided to move closer to the military base which is right here in Sunset Valley. Now we live here. We own the grocery store AND now my moms a resident at the hospital she moved up in her job and my dad is a personal trainer when he's home. SO yeah, there's not much about me that's interesting." He finished.
"So what about you miss Caiti-Lin?" Bridget asked. "There's really not much, my parents are in their 50's uhm I am the youngest child of three, I love useless facts, I-" "Give us a useless fact." Matthew interrupted. "Okay I will give you a few an average woman consumes 6 pounds of lipstick in her lifetime. A scallop has thirty-five eyes that are all blue. A tuna will suffocate if it ever stops swimming, and my personal favorit.... Kermit the frog is left handed just like me." "Wait so your left handed?" Bridget asked. "No nut left handed people are only 10% of people on the earth so their super unique, I'm unique so I consider myself lefthanded at life. I mean it'd be cool to be left handed but right handed people live on average an extra like 4 years or something!" I told them, "That's pretty wicked..." Matthew said. "I'm going to call you Kermit from now on. OKay go on Kermit." He said again. "Okay... Uhm... I guess the only other cool thing about my life is I can read over 4,000 words a minute, I absolutely HATE clowns, and I want to have a huge family when I'm older, like 6 kids. And I will live in a nice little white house with a picket fence in the backyard with a cat and my loving husband and we will die together." I told them. They both started laughing. "Okay miss 6 kids pretty house woman!" Bridget joked. "Well its getting pretty late I have to go home now, bye Bridget, bye Kermit!" Matthew said getting up from the sandbox. "I should go too, so my dad doesn;t freak out. Bye Matthew bye Caitlin!" Bridget said walking away, "Bye guys!!" I shouted since they were both already almost home.
That night I slept great. I dreamed of everything we talked about. I even dreamed about how weird it was that I got my own bed while Diana the OLDEST SHARED a bed with Sarah... I guess they just really love each other...
Ceclias POV. In the morning I woke up. I ripped the pregnancy test out of its package. Me and Martin had tried this 5 times now and yet it wasn't working. I took the test and again it turned out negative. "Martin! Get the bed ready!" I shouted.
Since the kids were all away on the town we got right to it. "We are going to have a baby if it kills us!" I shouted at the top of my lungs.......
Caitlins POV!! "Hi! Is Matthew home?" I asked Matts older brother. "Nah he is at park with mother...I don't be of a knowing why, So bye." He said with troubles, "Okay thanks bye.." Off to the park I go.
At the park I met Matthews mom Ashley. She seemed really nice and really down to earth. "Hi do you know where Matthew is?" I came up and asked. "Oh I'm not sure.. You must be Caitlin. Matthew told me all about you, you seem nice! Oh I see him! He's over there." She said pointing, "Thanks!" I told her and ran off to Matthew. We met at a halfway point because he was running to me too.
We talked and talked and talked. We talked about how old people sometimes smell like roast beef but in a good creepy kind of way. We talked about how the sky is blue when really it's all of the colors of the rainbow only blue stands out the most. At least that was my perspective, Matthews was that the sky liked boys so much that it made itself blue so it was routing for boys. I laughed at him. I told him another useless fact about how armadillos can walk under water. Then I realized that it was getting really late and Diana was aging up tonight. I told Matthew bye and ran home.
"Happy birthday to you! Happy Birthday to You! Happy Birthday Dear miss Diana! Happy birthday to you!" We sang as Diana made her wish.
"I wish.... I wish...... I wish for!" Diana screamed and blew out her candles. "What did you wish for?" I asked. "You can't tell anyone your wish stupid, then it won't come true!" she told me.. Thats weird... Why would you make a wish if nobodys ever going to find out. If other people know your wish then they can help make it happen... Now that's just crazy talk there when I grow up I'm telling EVERYONE my wish.. It's gunna be global!
"ALrighty! Time to be a teen!" Diana said as she twirled around.
She turned into a nice looking teenager. Although I hope we have some different genetics because I really don't want to look like her... Not to be rude or anything. But really.. I don't want to look like her...
"Okay sweety, for your birthday we got you.... We got you.... We got you! A!-" My mother started building intense. "SPit it out mom!" Diana yelled. "WE GOT YOU!!!" My mother got louder.
"A trip to Paris! We're all going to Paris!!" My mother shouted with joy. Diana was struck. "That was my wish! See nitwit that's why you don't tell mine just came true!!" She said directed to me. Note to self always keep wishes to self.. They WILL eventually happen. In Dianas case in a matter of a few minutes.
Diana was really happy we got to go to Paris for her birthday. We all packed our bags right away and headed to the airport. I really didn't want to leave Bridget and Matthew though, I stopped by their houses right before we left to say goodbye.
We didn't exactly go to Paris we went to a neighboring town called Champs-Les-Sims. At least that's how my mom explained it to me. Us girls went shopping while our father went to the nectery.
I learned how to sing a very gorgeus song from a nice lady. The song was called Philpes Kenspa.
"Thank you so much for teaching me the song!" I thanked her. "Oh no problem madaam. My pleasure.!" She told me.
"I have a question! You seem like an intelligent young lady, now do you like to write?" She asked. "I love writing but I personally am more of a book person." I told her. "Well yould you like a penpal? One of my sons have been desperate for one from America, and I told him I would find someone good for him to write to. And if your book friendly you should stop by the bookstore. There's great books there. SO penpal? Yeah no?" She asked. "I would love to write him! Just give me your address and everything." We exchanged information and we were on our way to the bookstore.
I picked up the biggest book I could find and started reading. It was a really great book! To bad I finished it quickly. My mother and sisters were still reading so I went back to the base camp.
I picked up my phone to call Bridget. "Hi Bridget. I miss you so much!" I told her. Then I told her about all of the little shops we visited and what I liked the most.
Then she asked me if we were going to the eiffel tower. "No I don't think we are. There's no time. I think tomorrow is our last day. Yeah short I know! Hey I have to go I need to call Matthew before it gets too late. Bye Bye miss you!" I said then hung up the phone.
I called Matthew. We ended up talking for 2 full hours. I told him everything we did.
I told him some fun facts about the eiffle tower.
And then before I knew it I had to say goodbye, His father was kicking him off the phone since it was late. Before he left completely he whispered into the phone "Love and miss you. Come home soon!" I didn't want our conversation to end. I never wanted to stop talking to him. But I guess rules are rules....
I was really sad after I got off the phone. We had only been gone about two days and I already missed them terribly. I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight..
"Hey mom.... Can you read me a book to sleep?" I asked. "Well sure I guess.. Pick a book out."
I picked out a logic book. "Your an oddball you know that Caitlin." My mother joked. She read me all about the quantoms of physics and about the laws of Newton. I was definetly intrigued but she started falling asleep as she read more. "Okay, I'm good goodnight." I told my mom so she could go to sleep.
I tossed and turned. I slept a little bit. But I just missed them so much..
I got out of bed with only 2 hours of horrible sleep. I walked out into the living room of the base camp.
I kind of ventured off and wandered here and there. Then I made a b-line for the couch.
I laid down on the couch and shut my eyes. Suprisingly I fell right asleep. I dreampt of playing with Matthew and Bridget, really it was so weird without them and really I shouldn't be so sad that I'm away from them but the truth is that I really am.
I woke with a startle. I heard somebody getting out of bed. If it was my mother I would get in trouble. If it was one of my sisters I would get a lecter on being up so early. If it was my dad, well he would understand... I think..
To my liking it was my father. He took a seat right next to me.
Martin: Now why are you up so early Cat?
Caitlin: I couldn't sleep. I miss my friends too much...
Martin: You know we will be leaving sometime this afternoon. You'll get to see them most likely tomorrow since the airport will take a while to go through not including the flight. But after all of that you will get to see them. I can tell you a story if you'd like.
Caitlin: Depends on what the stories about...
Martin: You'll love it Caiti. Okay it was back when your mom and I were young. Well in our twenties lets say. She decided to go over to her parents house for a few days. It ended up being three weeks four hours twenty-three minutes and some odd seconds.
Caitlin: You remember the exact times?
Martin: No but it makes me sound better... OKay anyway. I missed your mother so much I marched right over to her parents house. I didn't tell her she had to leave them. I didn't tell her that she could never go again. I stayed with your mother and your grandparents for at least a week until we went home. I told you mom that she couldn't leave without me again. It's hard missing someone but you have to get over it sometime. Two months later she had to go to another state for a week. This time I was prepared and didn't miss her as much. Trust me you will get over it as soon as you see them. But you have to remember they won't always be with you.
I found some meaning in his little speech. It took me a while to completely process it but I got it. "Thats a charming story." I told my father. If anything it showed that he loved my mother.
He talked and talked and talked some more. I couldn't believe how much he talked. But having him tell me stories got me feeling upbeat again.
By the end of it I was happy and bubbly again. I still couldn't wait to go home but I could stay here longer if need be.
We went to a small cafe for lunch before we headed to the airport. I had crepes, Sarah had some egg meal, and Diana had cobbler. It was a nice meal.
I was literally exhausted by the time lunch was over. Our taxi arrived to take us to the airport. "Come on Caitlin!" My mother yelled. I shook it off and ran to the taxi. The ride to the airport was a very long and uneventful- nonscenic route. I fell asleep in the middle and awoke to Sarah being covered in Dianas carsick vomit and my mother screaming. When we got to the airport Sarah changed and Diana was given a barf bag in case of a reoccurance. The flight was a long one also. Diana stayed in the bathroom for most of it and my mother and Sarah fell asleep. I watched a few movies on the portable dvd player with my dad. I thought flying was fun... Diana didn't...
We arrived home at about midnight. Sarah, Diana, and I all crawled into our beds. It was so nice and comfy to be back home. Tomorrow I would have to go to school... But then I would be able to see Bridget and Matthew.
Cecilias POV! Early in the morning after the girls went to school Martin and I went to the doctors office to see if we could conceive another child. We arrieved to the doctors office at about nine am. They had me get into a gown and they did some tests. Finally an hour later our doctor came in to tell us the news.
"Okay, I'm just going to ask you some questions right now. Let's start with this how old are you both?" Asked doctor Jolina." Well I'm 56 and Martin is 58. He will be an elder pretty soon." I responded. "Don't you think that's a bit old to be trying to conceive a baby?" She asked. "No I don't think so." I responded again. "Okay well I have your lab results right here lets see what they say..."
She sat in the chair closest to us. "Okay. What it says here on my charts is that you had many troubles trying to conceive your last child which would be Caitlin right?" She asked. "Yes Caitlin was our last child and we had many diffictulties with her." Martin responded for me. Doctor Jolina went on with so many more medical terms that I couldn't understand nor take in that I finally broke down. "What are you saying exactly?" I asked.
"Based on your age and your past medical experiences it seems that you can't have another child Mrs. Murray." She told me straight. "You've got to be kidding me! I've been trying for this baby for years!" I shouted. "Well since Caitlin was four months premature it really messed with your body. You weren't ready to deliver but there was so much wrong with Caitlin that you had to." The doctor stated. "So your saying if Caitlin was a healthy baby from the get go I would have at least another child?" I asked. "Well yes, but I wouldn't know if you would be capable even if Caitlin was healthy, it just seems to be the logical answer.." The doctor replied.
Thats it. It's Caitlins fault that I won't be a mother of five. That I will never be able to accomplish my lifetime goal of five, just five that's all I ask.
"I'm so angry. I just wanted a few more kids." I complained to Martin.
I hugged Martin very hard. I cried a little on the way home but not much more. |
When I rang the doorbell Matthew answered it. His eyes bulged at he stared at my face. "What happened to you?" He asked with concern. "Nothing, is your mom home?" I asked telling a white lie. "Yeah come on in... Would you like some ice for your eye?" He asked still concerned as ever. "No I just need to talk to your mom thanks though.."
When I walked in Ashley was right there. It looked like she was about to go to work so I hurried over to her. "Uhm, hi..." I said shyly, "Caitlin! What happened to your face sweetheart did someone hurt you? I can call the police!" She asked hurridly. "No that's not neccesary, I was just wondering if you could take a look at it, just to make sure nothings broken or too hurt." I told her timidly I was afraid I would get my mom in trouble...
She held my chin and tipped my head up. She moved it from side to side. "It's just a bad bruise honey, it should heal up in the next few days. But you have to tell me the truth what happened?" She asked. "I uhm..." Iwas going to lie but I couldn't say I ran into a pole because that didn't make any sense, I couldn't say I was playing catch because nobody in my family is athletic so I came out and told her the truth because I trusted her. "Well when my mom got home from the doctors she started yelling at me telling me it was all my fault she couldn't have another child. I didn't say anything because I was confused. She must've gotten frusterated because she whipped her hand at me and hit me." I confessed. "Caitlin, I have to call protective services on your mother, that is no way to treat a child." She said with a paniced tone picking up her phone. "No that's not neccesary! It only happened once, its not going to happen again.. I promise... Please don't call. I love my mom it just was a bad day for her probably..." I begged. "Fine but if it happens again I'm calling without thinking twice." She pulled me into a tight hug. "You and Matthew should go get Bridget and play. Be cautious around your mother for a while please." She told me then she grabbed her purse kissed Matthew on the head and told him goodbye, and then she headed out the door to go to work.
I hadn't been able to see my eye so Matthew brought me a mirror. It looked pretty bad. My own mother gave me a black eye but it didn't hurt so I wasn't too worried. Matthew and I headed over to Bridgets house to get her so we could all play.
At my house Diana had a "Friend" over. His name was Fredward. We saw them flirting in the hallway so we all ran outside gagging. I can't believe someone could love Diana, gross..
They were even in the sandbox flirting a little while later. We all dispersed trying to get as far away from them as possible...
Bridget and I swang on the swingset while Matthew ran around Diana and Fredward singing the K-I-S-S-I-N-G song. Me and Bridget joined him later but we all got in trouble by my father.
Instead of turning on me for her anger outbreaks my mother went to alcohol. By the end of the day she had drank at least four-teen cans of the stuff..
I felt really bad for my mother. I didn't like that she felt so bad. I told my dad about adoption but he told me that we just couldn't afford it. I wanted my mom to feel better but I don't think that she ever will...Not until she has another baby...
In the morning we all went straight to the swings, Matthew however did not get on. "Come on theres another empty swing for ya Matt!" Bridget yelled. "I'm good right here on the ground. I've tried heights before and we just don't mix..." Matthew confessed. Instead of pondering off to the sandbox he ran behind my swing. "Be careful!" I shouted at him.
"Oh live a little Kermit!" He said grabbing my swing. Then he pulled it back and pushed. I went sailing into the air still secured to my swing,
I was laughing wildly as Matthew pushed me. It made it all ten times funner. "Okay I think you're good, you're good right?" He asked jokingly. "Yeah I'm going high enough, you can take a break." I told him. He ran off to the sandbox and as soon as he got there Bridget shouted "Hey what about me?" Matthew started laughing "Pump your legs lazy!" Bridget started laughing also "I see how it is!" Then I joined their laughter.
Diana and Fredward came outside and started flirting yet again. We all started shouting at them to go away but that only made their flirts worse. "Oh I love you so much my little gm drop." Fredward would say squeezing Dianas butt. Then she would giggle weirdly, much differently than her normal giggle and kiss him violently. Usually they ended up on the ground and my dad would come out telling them to either get a room or move out.
Matthew came up to me after I was off of the swing. "I hope we're friends forever and ever." He explained. "Me to Matthew.. Me too." I replied. I knew my cheeks were blazing red. I knew it yes I did. Bridget just had to make it worse... "Okay you lovebirds I have to go home my dad just texted me." She said jokingly. Matthew and I both pulled away from each other. His cheeks were as red as mine. "I better get home too, for lunch... Bye Kermit..." He said in an embarassed tone. "See ya Matt.." I responded lightly. "I love you too..." I whispered because I know thats what he was thinking in his head.
"Oh I love you baby.... Oh I love you so much." Fredward told Diana and they started sucking away at each others lips... "You know you could get mono doing that." I told them. "Shut up twerpet you're ruining the moment." Diana scolded. "Well the statistics show-" I started. "Like I said shut up just go inside stop being such a bother.." She shouted. "Alright but when your sick and on your death bed I get to say I told you so." I said giggling. I ran as fast as I could inside so she didn't kill me right away.
"You know we could just age up and ove out of here." Diana told Fredward. "I would love that honey, lets age up tonight when your sister ages up." Fredward replied. Listening in on their conversation was really fun. Although it wasn't interesting. They were right tonight Sarah would be a teenager. Oh joy another teen in the house.
That night Sarah blew out her candles and became a teen. We all stood around the cake watching her with intent.
She changed 'sooo' much... Sarcasm there. She looks so much like my mom its kind of sad.
Then Diana and Fredward aged up. Trust me they don't look any different than they did before. They kissed us all goodbye, well Fredward didn't kiss us but they both said goodbye and then they went off to their own house to live their own lives...
I decided to go over to Bridgets after the bithday celebration. She answered the door with open arms.
"I think my mom is going to snap tonight... She's been really jittery and loud today. Either the alcohol is taking effect on her, or she needs a punching bag... What should I do? I don't want to be afraid of my own mom..." I asked. "I would suggest staying over here but I'm already breaking the rules by having you over when my dads away... Just stay away from her today..." She told me then her phone rang. "One sec." She warned. "Oh hi dad... No I'm home alone. Yes I took out the trash and did the dishes. No I haven't eaten dinner. Yes I would love to go out to eat. See you in a few. Love you too. Bye." Her conversation with her father was short but sweet. "I'm sorry but you have to go. I will see you tomorrow though." Bridget told me pushing me out the door. "Bye." I said but it was after the door shut behind me. I ran over to Matthews.
I joined him up in his treehouse. Very quickly he made me sit down. "Hey is everything okay? You seem.... Quiet.... And I just saw you earlier.. Is everything okay?" He asked worridly. "Define okay for me. Is being completely terrified of your own mother 'okay'?" I asked completely serious. "No I guess not.... Hey let's make the most of this and play then you will have to go home and face your mom but I would just stay clear from her, or stay by your dad...." He advised me. "Okay. Lets play." I sighed.
It was actually really fun playing. We pretended that I was the princess and he was the prince. We were destined to get married but nobody agreed to our love. Finally in the end the princess got to marry the prince and they lived happliy ever after. Maybe that's how our life will play out... If only fairy tals existed but then again the Royal wedding was a perfect example of Cinderella... "Bye Matt.." I said as I left. "Be careful Kermit. See ya..." He told me.
Trying to stay way from my mother was hard. She was right there at the door waiting for me to get home. "There you are you nasty little runt. Where the hell have you been?" She asked. "I was a-" I started but didn't get to finish. "I don't want to here any excuses. You are a horrid little creature you know that." She told me.
I kept a straight face as she insulted me but it all hurt deeply inside. "You know maybe this family would be happier if you weren't a part of it. Maybe I should just put you up for adoption. I bet you'd like that living with some other rich family who can afford other peoples unwanted babies. You would like that wouldn't you?" She asked. I didn't respond. "Come on brat answer your mother!!" She yelled. "No! I don't want to be adopted I love my family!" I shouted. Then the tears burst out my eyes before I could hold them in. "Awh.. I'm sorry little baby.. Too bad your family doesn't love you." She told me in a demeaning tone. "Now leave my sight you worthless piece of crap." She told me. I ran outside.
I was shaking madly and the tears were streaming down my face as I tried to play in the sand. She desn't hate me... I thought... It's just her hormones or something... I thought... I knew deep down she didnt mean it.. But then again maybe she did.
I walked inside and heard my parents talking. "Maybe we could send her to a boarding school." My mother told my father. "Maybe you can stop being such an unpleasant mother and we can return to our happy loving family." My father shot back. "Well maybe Caitlin could've been a healthy little baby like her sisters so we could have another child" My other came back at him.
"Awh.. Your life sucks because you waited until we were in our fifties, almost elders mind you to have another kid and you blame it all on Caitlin. Sorry she wasn't very healthy. But look at her now. Shes smarter than either of her older sisters, she does her chores religiosly and she loves us both even though you've been treating her like crap. Now you can go and sulk in your bedroom and blame it all on her but either way we weren't going to have another kid. We were a happy family as it was. Another kid wasn't going to make or break this family. So give it up." My father said. I knew this befuddled my mother because she didn't come back with a response. She then got a call and they went on a two day free vacation.
Sarah thought it would be a great idea to throw a teen party. They made so much noise the neighbors called the police. When they came all of the party guests dispersed. Then Sarah got an angry call from my mother saying that they were on their way home...
When my mother got home she yelled at Sarah. "I can't believe you threw a party with us gone!" She yelled. I laughed. Sarah was going to get it. I wasn't the target of her anger this time. "Am I in trouble?" Sarah asked in such a pitiful tone it was sad. "No baby your not in trouble. Sorry I snapped at you." my mother apologized. "Now where's Caitlin she needs to clean up this mess.." My mother asked Sarah. Oh come on! I thought to myself it wasn't my idea to throw a party and now I'm the one to clean up. I didn't move nor breathe in my little spot in the hallway. "No Cecilia. Sarah you clean this all up its your party mess not Caitlins." My father butted in saving me.
My parents then decided to age up themselves. Their birthdays were in a few days anyway. They stared at their cakes, this would be the last time either of them did this which was really sad to me. Bridgets dad was also an elder so she might be able to relate, but Matthews parents they were just now in their midterms of being adults. They had full lives to still live!
"Hmmm what to wish for what to wish for... Maybe a new daughter, maybe a million dollars.... Oh I know a brand new house!" My mother whispered quietly to herself but I overheard.
My parents look so old! It would certainly be weird with them so old. My father even had a cane! He really didn't need it but he said it made him look better. They both retired from their medical careers and were on their way to settling down. In reality they would not have been ready for another child....
I thought since they were elders now and there was no return to have any more kids my mother would forgive me and we would all go back to our peaceful little happy lives... But I was wrong this only opened the door to more of my mothers taunts, "Oh look at little baby Caitlin guess what darling somebody needs to take a nice warm bottle of life and grow up!" She pestered me. It made no sense since I had a better understanding of the world mentally than a full grown adult. "Okay mom whatever you say." I said back trying to let it go so it wouldn't get to me.
"You listen here you little bitch. If you ever, EVER talk back to me again like that I will backhand you so hard your teeth will fall out and your ears would begin to bleed. You will adress me as your highness and you will do Whatever I say right when I say it no buts ands or ifs to it! Do you hear me?" She screeched.
"I, I, I, I understand..." I stuttered stepping a few steps back. "Say it right!" my mother boomed. "I'm sorry for talking back to you in an unsuitable manner your highness. It surely won't happen again in the future.." I said in a monotone voice trying to keep from breaking down. "Good, Now get out of my sight!" She yelled.
I knew my dad still loved me. He came up to me and pinched my cheeks telling me I was the best daughter he ever had and to screw my mother if she got mad again. He would handle things. "Just remember Cait, your mom she's a bit coco in the brain.... So.... uhm..... I got nothing..." He tried helping. I gave him a laugh and went to the bus for school.
Martins POV I scanned the paper for possible houses. This one is just too outdated we needed something newer and possibly without steps.. "Cecilia!" I shouted. She came out of the bedroom quite slowly. "I think I found a nice house!"
"Well if you think it's nice dear why don't we take a look." Cecilia inquired. "Okay what do you feel about moving." I asked. "I think that if you say its a good idea Its a great idea." She told me. Oh your just a kissup aren't you. I thought in my mind.
We arrived at our possibly new house. I thought it was perfect. "Ain't it great honey? We got lots of movin' around space, it's fully furnished and the best thing nobody has ever lived in it!" I told her all of the great facts. She seemed slightly interested. She went around back.
"I think it's just perfect!" Cecilia said coming back around. "I love it!" She squealed. She pulled me into her embrace and kissed me. "I feel yound all over again!" She said. If only I had the same thoughts...
When we got home we immediately started packing the furniture. We sold the television and couch and the beds and almost everything we owned besides the utilities and appliances. We would tell the girls that we were moving right when they got home from school. We weren't moving far, only about a block. Caitlin wouldn't like it because it would be far away from Bridget and Matthew but they were always at each others houses it didn't really matter if she had to bike a while because I knew she would...
"Dad? Wheres all of our furniture?" Caitlin immediatly asked when she got into the house. "Well Cat, we are moving." I told her. She started going ballistic. "We can't move! We just can't! Statisticly speaking a household that stays in one house can live happier than one who constantly moves! I can't move away from Bridget and Matt." She gasped. "I have to go tell them!" She yelled and before I could tell her it was a block away she was out the door..
Caitlins POV I ran over to Bridgets as fast as I could. I burst through the door without knocking because she told me I could whenever I wanted. "I'M Moving!" I shouted and Bridget nearly jumped to the ceiling. "Wait, your moving? Where Riverview?" She asked. "Yeah, and I have absolutely no clue where!" Then I got a text from Sarah. I read it. Cait.. We are moving almost less than a block away. Mom says to tell Bridget goodbye and head home. Hurry shes angry... And ps..... I don't blame you for the freakout... Her text was nice. I told Bridget the situation and headed home.
Then I called Matthew to tell him what was going on. He was sad at first but then realized that we would all soon be teenagers that could drive and wander off whenever we wanted. We talked for a while then I gathered my things and we were off to a brand new house.
It was definitely a very small nice house for an elderly couple to live. Sarah entered. "Well... I see no point in me sticking around longer, I could give a crap about highschool.. I don't need a diploma to open up a nice garden." She said smiling.
My father ran to the store and picked out a cake. We all sang happy birthday to her and she was on her way to be a young free adult. I wandered off to my bedroom. I started decorating right away. About three hours later my masterpiece was done.
I am very picture savy so I have a ton of photos and posters on my wall. My father bought me a nice big bed and a desk since I was the only one of his three kids who had enough to graduate highschool. I haven't yet but I promised him I wouldn't back down. I bought my laptop and many of my knickknacks with my own money. It felt so good to have my own bedroom.
I absolutely loved the open space. It was my 'own' space. No more sharing a room and having to sleep on a tiny bunk on a bunkbed. I got a nice large room. I quickly called Bridget and Matt and invited them over.
We all agreed to age up. We all had a's in school and were more than ready to get on with our lives. My mother was cheering in the back which suprised me at first and then I realized what she was saying "YAY!!! No more bratty children!!! Closer to moving out! Closer to age 18! WOOT!" She cheered. I rolled my eyes and blew out the candles.
We're still all best friends. Matt and I kind of inherited the same style sense with glasses. He realized he couldn't see clearly and that trees just looked like big green masses of mush. So he got a pair of glasses that look just like mine. Bridget calls them nerdy glasses. Shes just jealous because she has a perfect eyesight.
"So are there kissy kissy bells going on in your minds?" Bridget joked. I blushed deeply and so did Matt. "Well that's none of your business." Matt told her. "I'm kind of confused. Both of you are wearing pants and we live in a state where its practicly summer all year! There's only like a month of snow if we're even lucky!" Bridget tried changing the subject. It didn't quite work and we all dispatched from talking to each other.
In the morning I woke up and my mother was standing in my doorway. Bridget had spent the night so she was also over still. "What do you need?" I asked rubbing my eyes. "Oh I just came in to tell you to get your lazy butts up." She then told Bridget to leave the room.
She then started critisizing me. "Oh I'm Caitlin I'm perfect and skinny.. Well guess what twat Your ugly and you vould lose a few pounds get a life!" My mother said to me. I have never said I was perfect not once in my life. Today something just snapped in my head.
I gathered my courage and yelled back at my mom. "You know what! Just because you couldn't have another kid doesn't mean you need to abuse me. I am not the reason your old wrinkly ass couldn't have another kid! It's in your head! Get a clue whackjob!" I shouted. Bridget was on the computer . "I'm gunna leave the room now..." She said as she slinked through the door.
My mother swung her hand around and hit me square in the face. It shocked me at first. "That's for cussing! And Backtalking! I've been over this with you before!" She yelled. Apparently she had no comebacks because she stormed out of my room.
I put my ear on my door and listened. "Well I suggest you leave little miss perfect Bridget. Cait will surely be with you tomorrow at lunch dear. Goodbye." My mother said in an odd tone that must've left Bridget feeling uncomfortable. "Uhm.... Bye Mrs.Murray.." She managed to stutter out.
By this point my connection of love with my mother was drawing to a close. She didn't love me so why would I love her, but that hurt me inside too because I just couldn't not love my mom. I was feeling so conflicted so I talked to my dad.
"Oh Sweetheart.. I have no idea what to tell you! Your mother went off the deep end a while ago, she hasn't tried getting back up because she feels nobodys throwing in the floaties. But thats exactly what you tried doing. I'll talk to her." He told me. "Hey let's go learn how to drive." He whispered.
We snuck out of the house and got into the car. At first I got into the passenger seat out of peer habit but my father told me to take on the drivers seat. We buckled our seatbelts and I put the key in the ignition. I wrapped my fingers around the steering wheel. I instantly started to shake. "It's okay if you crash the car we can always buy another one." My father joked which only made me feel worse.
By the end of the day I had learned how to drive and felt much safer in my own home. "We should really hang out again dad!" I told him. "I had fun too." He said chuckling. I went to my bedroom.
I grabbed a book off of my shelf and got into my pajamas. I curled up on my bed and began reading. I was excited for tomorrow because Bridget and I were going out to eat together. I heard my father talking to my mother in the living room. I crawled off of my bed and sat by my door.
"You know Cecilia you are too hard on Caitlin. Just give it all a rest I mean my god she's your youngest brightest nicest child! The least you could do is support her." My father criticised. "You know what I'm just tired of everyone telling me what to do. If Caitlin is the best child ever she should be able to take what I'm dishing out." my mother said. Yet agin she thought she was totally right for everything she did.
I got online and started to chat with Bridget. I told her how my mom was on the break of being insane. She told me that she became insane a long long time ago, which made me laugh. At about midnight I logged off and went to bed. I would see Bridget in the afternoon.
We met at Hogans. "So are you and Matthew going to get married?" She asked. "Let it go Bridget we haven't done a thing together that would consider us a couple." I told her although I fantisized about it a lot. "Well lets go eat I am starving!" She said. We went inside and ate.
Afterwards Bridget told me she had to go. Her dad wanted her home to do something. "Sorry." She said. "Oh no problem." I told her and we both hugged each other goodbye. My phone started ringing so I answered it. "Hello?" I answered. "Cait-Caitlin.." The familiar voice stuttered. "What is it Matthew?" I asked becoming panicked.
"I- she was on the floor.. Her her mouth was bloody, Caitlin... Caitlin what do I do?" His voice quivered. "Wait who?" I asked frantic. "My, my mom... She was on the ground and and her mouth was full of blood I don't know whats wrong noones home. What do I do?" He asked starting to sob. "Take her to the hospital! I'll meet you there!" I shouted into the phone. Tears started to stream my eyes..
When I got to the hospital I asked where her room was. I went three floors up and two rooms down. I entered the room. It was so quiet. Matthews father and brother were already in the room. I was thankful that Matts family got here in such a hurry I took a whole two hours before I got my parents ad Bridget together.
I walked right up to Matthew. "What happened?" I asked in a soothing tone. "Well like I told you before she was on the ground with blood in her mouth. She was trying to tell me something but I couldn't understand. I followed what you said and rushed her to the hospital calling my father and brother in the process. She went straight into emergency surgery. They found 3 tumors surrounding her brain all three were the size of baseballs and cancerous. The cancer supposebly spread all over her body, they caught it too late. Finally it made it to her bloodstream and slowed her heart down... Caitlin it's all my fault. If I would've stayed home she wouldn't be sick." He quivered.
"Matt. You wouldn't have been able to stop the cancer. You wouldn't have been able to know that she was sick. Heck she is a doctor and she didn't know she was sick. Sit down and take a deep breath. None of this is your fault. None of it. And if you ever think differently well I'm just going to have to beat you up." I told him.
I sat down with him. "The sad part about this is.." He started. "What?" I asked. "If she survives shes not going to have any hair for a while." He smiled and so did I. We waited a few more hours in the room. In that time millions of doctors were in and out. One of them said that it would take a mirical for her to survive.
At 6:07 pm the machines all flat lined. A doctor came in and tried reviving her but couldn't. He pulled the covers over her face slowly. Matthew just about jumped out of his skin. "NO!" He shouted as the tears came by the bucket fulls down his face.
"Come here.." I whispered tohim and he fell apart on my shoulder. I walked him out of the hospital room as he cried his heart out. "It's okay.. It's okay." I lulled to him. Nothing seemed to work which I didn't blame him for anything he had the best mother of all time and now just that sudden she was gone. I started crying too but I tried to keep it quiet it would only make Matthew feel worse than he already did.
Four days later we got ready for the funeral. "I hate you." Bridget said completely serious. "Now why is that?" I asked poking my contact into my eye. "You're making me wear a dress... A dress of all things..." She scoffed. "Oh you'll live. Ashley loved dresses." I told her. "Ugh..." She moaned.
We got to the cathedral just in time. Matthew waked us up to Ashley who was in her coffin. "How does she have hair?" Bridget asked. I elbowed her in the stomach. "Bridget not now!" I whispered. "Oh, the person who did her body after she passed away asked if she would want hair, we said yes so he put in extensions." Matt told us. Ashley looked so peaceful as if she was getting ready to take a nap.
(this wonderful cathedral was made by Lester Dale S. Thanks for this wonderful creation)
My father was a priest so he started off with all of the preaching. It went on for a long while. Then he asked if anyone wanted to say anything. Matthew practically ran up.
"My mother was practically all of our mothers. She acted as Bridgets mother, she acted as Caitlins other better mom." He said, my mother gasped. "But most importantly she was the best mother for two boys. Dylan and I, when we got dirty she wouldn't yell. She saved us from my father when he was being completly evil with making us work out non stop. She was the best doctor ever." He suddenly stopped.
"And now shes just gone.." He stuttered out and broke down crying. Nobdy seeed to be doing anything so I ran up and held him. "Hey go sit down, I'll take over." I whispered to him. He went to the bench to sit down. Before the funeral they asked me to do all of the singing. They arranged to have over ten songs and all of them were the saddest ever."
I started with Amazing Grace. Everybody sang along quietly. The next few songs I started to lose a lot of people because they were starting to cry. Then I finally made it to the closing song.
Nobody else sang along with On Eagles Wings. I'm not sure if they didn't know the words or they just couldn't spit out the words. My mother was just sitting there like a stone wall showing no emotion once so ever. Once the song was over I thanked everyone and said that I would miss Ashley dearly. I couldn't say anything because my throat had practically closed in on itself.
I started to cry loudly. Matthew came over to my rescure. "Hey don't be sad..." He whispered although I knew he wasn't telling the truth because he had sadness in his voice as well.
"Hey, let's go outside and escape the madness.." Matthew said. "Are you sure?" I asked wiping my nose. "Positive he said." He walked me out with his arm around me.
Outside he held my hands. "The last thing my mom said was grandchildren.. I asked with who and she told me I knew the answer.. Then she slowly slipped into unconciousness." Matthew told me. I didn't quite follow but my stomach started fluttering and my cheeks turned bright red. "Kermit. I love you." He told me. "I love you too." I said back. My heart started to swell.
Matthew let go of my hands and pressed his lips lightly against mine. We had our first kiss at his own mothers funeral. He stepped back his cheeks flushed. "Let's go back inside." He said quietly. We held hands and walked right in. Bridget was approaching the microphone.
"Ashley was like the mother I never had.." Bridget said and then started crying. "I just hope one day I can be as good as mother as her." She said. Then she walked back to her pew. My father went back up and drew the funeral to a close. It was time to go and bury Ashley.
Right when we got to the graveyard the rain came. We all stood around the grave saying our final goodbyes and final prayers. My mother was actually smiling... I can't believe she could smile when her daughters best friends mom was instantly killed by cancer I mean who really does that... But then again.. My mother does strange things...
Most of us were drenching wet on our clothes and faces, others just their clothes. Matthew layed down the last flower vase and we all left. Matthew and Bridget came home with me. As soon as we left the rain started to clear up. Perfect timing... I thought to myself.
This is what Ashleys grave looks like. We were sure to decorate it with her favorite flowers. Bridget thought it would be a good idea to spread some flower seed in the dirt area so it looks better. Matthew and his father agreed to that. His brother Dylans vote was overruled..
Once we were home Matt came up to me. "Well Kermit, the school dance is in a couple of nights, would you have any idea who would want to take you?" He asked flirtily. "Oh I don't know, there's this one really cute guy that I love a lot." I responded smiling. "I'll take that as a yes." He replied gazing into my eyes. "No I think that's a heck yes!" I told him.
He turned his head away from me and pulled something out from behind his back. "Suprise!" He shouted giving me red roses. "Thank you so much!" I thanked him and buried my nose in the flowers. Then Matt plopped down on the couch and was out like a lightbulb. It was nice seeing him react this way. I knew he secretly missed her dearly but he wasn't about to show it much more.
"What's the square root of 186.431716?" Bridget asked as we did our math homework... "I believe it's 13.654" I responded. She did the math. "Cait you are a pure genious.." She said with her jaw wide open. Matthew regained conciousness on the couch. "Oh yeah Kermit come into your bedroom with me I have something to give to you." He said hurrying to my room.
He pulled out a small box. "What is it?" I gasped. "Open it delicately to find out.." He responded. I opened the box to find a white gown. "Is this your mothers wedding gown?" I asked gasping at it's beauty. "Yeah my parents got married in their teen years. My father thought it would be a neat idea if you wore it to prom.. You certainly don't have to." Matt told me. "Are you kidding?" I asked pulling him into an embrace. "I would absolutely love wearing it!" I gasped with joy. "Great! You'll look beautiful!" Matt told me with a smile on his face.
He took me outside to watch the sunset. "I wonder what it's like up there." He said. I didn't exactly know if it was a question or just to say it. "I bet it's altered differently for every person." I said adding my opinion. "I just hope its nice and I don't screw up my life and end up somewhere else." Matthew said chuckling. We sat and watched it set for about another hour. We sat until the stars started poking through.
"I had better go." Matthew said getting up. "I love you Kermit." He said pulling me into a kiss. "Love you too. I think you need a petname." I told him. "Uh I think Matthews okay." He said giggling. "Bye Kermit." He said "Bye Matt." I told him back.
In the morning I picked up Bridget and Matthew from their houses. I was driving us all to school this morning. Matthew beat Bridget to shotgun since I picked him up first, she was giving us love crap the whole way there.
After school Bridget had to stay for a dentention. She decided it would be hilarious to pull a kids pants down during a demonstration of gravity to show Newtons laws. Instead the teacher yelled at her and sent her to the principals office. I was also called down. She told me she thought I could bail her out but I couldn't. So anyways me and Matt went home together. He asked me out on a date and we went to the movies. It was an amazing date by the way.
Then we returned to my house and did our homework. "Are you ready for the dance tomorrow?" I asked Matt. " Tottaly since I'm taking the most amazing girl in the world." He responded. Bridget had been asked out by the most popular guy at school Lane Beal. She was tottaly excited and couldn't believe that him of all people would ask her out I told her to believe that she was pretty but she still didn't believe it.
Our whole school day was full of anticipation and wait. Bridget came to my house straight after school and we started to get ready. She pulled her hair into a side bun while I went for a more complicated way to put my hair down without actually keeping it completely down. "You look beautiful!" I told Bridget as she came out of my room in her short neon green dress. "Well nobody can top your dress you look stunning!" She told me. I hadn't mentioned that this was Matts moms wedding dress.
It was a really lovely ruffled dress. It fit my form well. "I absolutely just love it!" Bridget exclaimed. I was happy she was taking this much interest into a dress. "Where did you get it?" She asked. "Uhm... A place.. I forgot the name." I told her. I wasn't going to tell anyone the truth.
Matthew came with a bouquet of flowers. "Why hello Bridget, Why hello beautiful!" He said coming up to me and giving me the flowers.
Zane came up to Bridget and exactly copied Matts actions. "Uhm well Uh here ya go." He said under his breath showing a fake smile. "Uh Bridge?" I whispered. "Oh my gosh! Thank you so much!" Bridget squealed with delight. "Limos here." Matt said taking my hand. Zane walked behind Bridget mumbling something under his breath. Bridget was too happy to notice..
We all got to the limo and rode to the prom. While there Matt asked me to go steady, I said yes. I got prom queen and he got prom king. We danced greatly together and neither of us left the other ones side. I had the time of my life. Bridget however was a different story. Her 'date' left her on the bleachers while he hung out with his friends. And he even spilled punch all over her legs.
Bridgets POV We didn't all ride back to Caitlins in the limo. Zane was going to take me home. He stopped halfway there. "You see you made me look like a retard!" He yelled at me. "That Is why I will never go out with someone on a dare again!" He screamed. My eyes instantly glistened with tears... "it was a dare to take me to prom?" I spilled out. "Well a duh! Why would the school football star ask someone like you? Your totally not a size one and Psh, your ugly." He told me. My tears went away and were replaced with rage.
" I may not be a size one freaking model, I may only have two or three friends, But at least I know how to treat someone!" I yelled. "I hope you die in a very large very dark hole when your older and I can assure you I will be your boss and it'll be your sorry fat ass that gets fired when I have to let people go. So you can go and tell the whole world you hated this night of your life, or you can tell everyone you banged me, but in the end me and my true friends will know the truth. Now if you excuse me I need to go to my best friends house. Have fun with your screwed up life!" I shouted. I ran to Caitlins as fast as I could, the tears started streaming down my face.
Caitlins POV Bridget knocked on my door and I answered. Her makeup was smeared all over her face. I brought her in and cleaned her up. I let her borrow some pjs and insisted on her staying over. Then I led her to the bedroom where me and Matt were watching a movie. I let her tell us everything before I hit play. "Can I go kick his sorry ass?" I asked. "Whoops... Sorry I cussed." I said correcting my language. "No let him go, he will dig his own hole.." Bridget told me.
We continued to watch the movie. It was a horror film about a brilliant young woman and a retarded young man who were trying to find out who the killer was. In the end the smart one dies, the retarded one ends up being the killer and goes to jail and a random orphan gets all the money the perp killed people for. In the end it makes you wonder if the retard was really retarded since he brought down the smartest person on earth.. Makes you wonder..
I set down my prom queen crown and Matthew set his next to mine. "There ya go. I have no use for it." He told me. They both left. The next week or two were very uneventful. Matt's dad was making him work out more than ever and Bridget came over daily only to harrass me about Matt and to have help with homework. But I love her so I tolerate her.
Then a random knock at the door came. It was 6:30 am on a Saturday suprisingly I was up so I ran to the door to answer it. When I opened the door I was horrified.
I opened the door to Matthew. He was drooping down and he had the darkest of circles under his eyes. "What happened?" I asked. "My dad has been making us work non stop. It's always do a sit up.. Run a mile. Kermit I've run 17 miles in the past two days on the treadmill... He won't let us sleep. The only reason I got to come over here is because he thinks I'm on a run..." He sighed.
"Come into my room, you can get some shut eye nobody will bother you. Are you hungry?" I asked. "Yeah a little bit.. Thanks so much Kermit." He said. "It is no problem what so ever." I assured him.
He instantly fell asleep when his head hit the pillow. I went into the kitchen and prepared some soup for him. Then I walked into my bedroom shutting the door and putting a note on it that said 'shhhh....'.
I sat and watched Matt sleep for a while. He was so peaceful... It was kind of stalkerish for me to watch him sleep but he was in my house. His soup was on the nightstand getting cold.
Finally Matt awokened. "What's up?" He asked rubbing his eyes. "Well in Kentucky it's illegal to carry icecream in your back pocket." I tell him "WHy in the world would would someone carry icecream in their backpocket. It would melt?" He said. "Well maybe thats why it's illegal!" I explained and we both started cracking up. "Yum! Soup!" Matthew explained and he picked it up and went into the living room.
I sat as he ate. "Thank you again so much do you know what time it is?" He asked. "Uhm its 11 am." I said wondering if I let him sleep a little too late. "Perfect I told my dad I'd be home at 12." Matthew said. He finished up eating and walked to the door.
"Kermit. I love you." Matthew told me. He kissed me and held me tightly. "I can't thank you enough. This means so much to me." He said once again. "Like I said one thousand times It's absolutely no problem. Come over again to get some shut eye. I won't mind as long as I get to see you some." I said sighing.
"I'm so sorry Kermit... I'll try to take you out tomorrow. Okay?" He asked rubbing my cheek. "That'd be heavenly." I tell him. It turns out he couldn't hang out tomorrow. Bridget came over instead.
"I just can not wait for graduation! And the best part is that we will be young adults!!!" Bridget exclaimed. "Yeah! Me neither. Maybe we should just age up? We all have a's and are all on honor role.." I suggested. "WE SHOULD TOTTALY DO THAT!!" Bridget screamed. I called up Matt he couldn't make it over until late but he said he would try. "The best part is the moment I graduate and pack my bags I'm off to Bridgeport!" Bridget shouted. "That's great.." I managed to muster out of my lips. I was happy she was going off to do bigger and better things... Although I felt the few tears that trickled down my cheek.
Matthew made it and we all blew out our candles like we did when we were children. We will be together until forever ends. I thought to myself. Once we aged up we went inside. Matt went on my computer but I had accidently left a blog up. "What's this?" He asked. "Oh it's just a blog.." I told him. "About what? It's really interesting." He said. "Oh it's about a woman who has 100 children throughout her life. Each child is conceived with a different man with the acception of multiple baby births. I thought it was a neat idea." I tell him. I could never do a challenge. I would be faithfully married to Matt so I couldn't.
Matt and I waked into the living room. "If you ever want to do a challenge like that you have my full permission I wouldn't mind a bit!" Matt told me. "Well your not supposed to be married. It's part of the rules." I told him. He shrugged. "Marriage can wait" He said. A few days later we all met up and went to the city hall to graduate. I was super excited, Matt didn't look too excited and Bridget was practically jumping up and down.
Afterwards we went outside and threw our diplomas into the air. "YAY FOR FREEDOM!!!" Bridget shouted loudly. "Uhmm Caitlin. Can we talk?" Matthew asked. "Of course!" I said excitedly. I thought he was going to get down on one knee but I was wrong.
"I don't know how I'm supposed to say this exactly." Matt started. "Oh anyway is fine!" I said happily. "Uhm... Okay... My father signed me up for the military. Odds are I got in... They're deploying me tomorrow. Caitlin I'm going away for two whole years..." He said quietly.
I held my breath tightly. "You, YOU can't go! No!" I almost yelled drawing attention. The tears started and I could feel my makeup drip down my face. "But I love you...." I whispered. "I love you too..." He whispered back. I started shaking uncontrollably.
Matt held me and cupped his hands over my ears and shushed me. "It's all going to be alright.. I will come home safe and sound. But until then you do whatever your pretty little mind decides to do. If that's a baby challenge go ahead.. Now if its a see how many times I can die and get away with it challenge then we will have a big big problem.." Matt told me. I managed a laugh.
Matthew stroked my cheek. "That's my Kermit.." He told me. I felt like crawling into a cave and dieing. I could barely handle Bridget leaving, but Now my true love who might die... I just couldn't handle it.. I started shaking again so Matt picked me up.
He carried me to my fathers car but I held on for dear life. I smelled him the best I could so I could remember it. I told him to talk the whole time to my house so I wouldn't forget his voice. I told him to tell me he loved me and that he would be back no matter what.
When we got to my house I pretended to be asleep. Matt set me down on my bed and kissed my forehead. "See ya in the morning." He whispered. "I love you." He whispered straight after. I thought of one of my favorite poems.
Sling Me under the sea
Pack me down in the salt and water
No farmers plow shall touch my bones
No Hamlet hold my jaws and speak
How jokes are game and empty is my mouth
Long green eyed scavengers shall pick my eyes
Purple fish play hide and seek
And I shall be song of thunder, crash of sea
Down on the floors of salt and wet
Sling me under the sea.... - Carl Sandburg. It defined what I felt like doing. What I wanted people to do. Why I need Matt..
In the morning I heard Matt creep into my bedroom. He woke me up and I got dressed. "Time to go..." He whispered. "Do we have to?" I whispered back. "I'm sad to say yes my love..." He responded back.
We got to the military base when the lights outside were still on and flickering.. "I promise I love you." Matt told me. "And I promise to come back." He smiled and looked into my eyes. "Give me one more fact to hold onto Kermit." Matt told me. "A kangaroo can't jump backwords." I said to him. He laughed and told me it was great to know. "I love you." I told him as I kissed him. "I love you too." He said kissing me back.
Then he stepped away and walked into the cold lonely building that he would return to in two years. If I was lucky he'd come right back out and say it was a jokeand propose to me. But with my luck it didn't happen. He never turned back around.
When I got home Bridget was there. "It's time for me to leave..." She said. "Oh my gosh.. Already?" I asked starting to cry. "Are you sure you don't want me to stay?" She asked. "No Bridge... You go on with your life. I've got a plan to regain mine." I said smiling.
"I Freaking love you!" She said in a best friend forever kind of thing. "I freaking love you too." I said. "I freaking love you too." I repeated for good measure. I watched my best friend in the entire world walk out the door and into a taxi cab. She waved goodbye to me as she stepped in crowded by her suitcases.
I thought about how it would feel to let a child leave so fast, almost without warning. I knew my path of life was clearly smoothed out. I knew exactly what my plan was. Now to put it into action. I'm not just going to have 2 or three kids, not 9 12 or even 13. I was going to have 100 children no less and maybe more. I would have them all and Matthew would come back and we'd have our own family. The one with six kids and a nice white house. This is where I begin and my dependence of life with friends shed. I will one day be able to call myself a mother of 106 100 part of a challenge and 6 not. I will be legendary. I will simply be me.
I battled violently with my mother and father about the challenge. I ignored what they said. This is where you first met me and now you know my backstory. Sure my mother was hard but there are millions of kids who are treated much worse. I can now call myself a proud mother of 16. This is the life I now live. The life I now love.
Caitlins many useless facts came from the book Handle With Care an amazing book by Jodi Picoult. I would love to hear comments and see followers. Thanks for reading! :)
I hope that Matt comes back into the story whole and healthy! <3 loved it!
